Refined connoisseurs that want to invest in historical buildings in Romania, have the opportunity to acquire several landmark properties in Arad city center.
Our agency presents three historical properties for sale that along the decades became not just part of the history of the city but they left their lasting imprint throughout the social and cultural life. These buildings are most suitable for investors such as private equity funds, reits, and money managers looking to diversify their portfolio in real estate investments in Romania.

The House with Padlock – House no. 7

This building is truly a part of Arad’s historical building landscape.
The House with the Lock was built in 1815 in the Eclectic architectural style by the Viennese merchant Joseph Winkler, then renovated in 1851.
The floor was added during the modernization carried out in 1930.
In the corner of the building, towards Plevnei Street, there is a niche in which there was a tree trunk surrounded by a metal bar closed with a padlock.
The “iron log” (wood wrapped in sheet metal) placed in the niche was forged, according to the Viennese model, by the Timișoara sculptor Moritz Heim; such logs could be found in Vienna, Bratislava, Buda, Oradea, Timișoara, etc.
In such a log, journeymen who made long journeys from city to city to perfect their professional knowledge, would hammer a nail, thus immortalizing their passage through those places.
The log is no longer in the niche, because after it was stolen in 1994 and recovered, it was deposited for safekeeping at the Arad Art Museum (Art Gallery of the Arad Museum Complex), so that it would not be stolen again.
The central location plus the historical value make this property a rare opportunity on the real estate market. With careful renovation*, it can become once again an impressive landmark of the city.
The building consists of 29 rooms, 2 offices, 13 kitchens, 12 pantries, 11 bathrooms, 7 toilets, 11 entrances, 2 corridors, 1 passage and 23 basement boxes.
This property has a generous usable area of 1632 sq.m. (~ 17.567 sq.ft.) and is built as ground floor plus 2 floors. A spacious attic complements its features.

House no. 9

Right next to the House with Padlock we have the building located at no. 9.
House no. 9, as it is known locally, is a smaller construction, built later than the House with Padlock.
Some of the key-selling points consist in its location, right downtown Arad, with an excellent connectivity with major public transportation means.
Connected to the main boulevards in the city, facilitating quick access to any destination, yet surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants, shops and important institutions its location is without a doubt one of the best in town.
Whether you plan to develop an office building, open a business or transform the building into a premium living space, here you have maximum visibility and convenience.
The building is built in a historical eclectic style, with neoclassical and neo-Renaissance influences.
The window frames on the first floor are distinguished by classical decorations, specific to the late 19th – early 20th centuries. The triangular pediments above the windows are a common element in neoclassical architecture.
The building retains its historical charm but needs restoration* to fully benefit from its aesthetic potential.
This property has a usable area of 583 sq.m. (~ 6.275 sq.ft.) and is built as ground floor plus 1 floor.

House no. 11

Located in the Avram Iancu Square, this landmark building is placed in the heart of the city, right behind the National Theater and one block away from the Nadasdy Palace and across the Hirschl House.
Built in the early 1800’s by Austrian traders and industrialists, the palaces and renowned houses in Avram Iancu Square represent important landmarks in the history of Arad’s culture.
Some of the most iconic features of this property consist in its architecture with historical value and its premium location.
This particular building is built in 1895 with an eclectic style with neoclassical influences, specific to the late 19th century – early 20th century, a period in which Arad developed intensely under the influence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Its imposing facade and authentic architectural details retain still to this day original decorative elements, such as window frames, ornamental pilasters and ground floor arches, which give it a noble air and a unique aesthetic.
This property has a tremendous potential due to its versatile functionality.
The generous surface area and flexible partitioning make it suitable for both commercial spaces and homes or offices.
The ground floor is perfect for a commercial area, ideal for restaurants, cafes, shops or showrooms.
Upper floors suitable for luxury homes, rental apartments or corporate offices.
Due to its central location and historical value, this property represents a rare opportunity on the Romanian real estate market.
With artful renovation* this property can reach its former glory, once again.
This property has a usable area of 2272 sq.m. (~ 24.455 sq.ft.) and is built as ground floor plus 2 floors and a spacious attic. Footprint on the ground 892 sq.m. (~ 9.601 sq.ft.)
